Delivering my local plan for Darling Range

From Roleystone to Keysbrook, Darling Range is a brilliant place to live, work, and raise a family.

I wear many hats – father, husband, coach, teacher, and volunteer. These roles have instilled in me the importance of hard work and have empowered me to effectively advocate for our community.

As part of the Mettam Liberal Team, I will deliver real solutions for Darling Range, driven by the right priorities to build a better future.

Meeting so many locals during this campaign has been a privilege, and your feedback has shaped my local plan.

The population in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale has grown exponentially over the last 20 years and is set to double to 70,000 residents by 2036.

This growth has put enormous pressure upon streets like Kargotich Road, and key intersections are now unsafe and not fit-for-purpose.

That’s why I’m fighting for the intersections of Kargotich Road with Abernethy and Orton Roads to be transformed into roundabouts.

These upgrades will ease congestion, cut travel times and make commuting safer for local families.

Groundwater reserves in the Hills are being freely bored by private companies, with millions of litres being trucked out of the community annually for commercial purposes.

This is impacting residents and orchardists, with many struggling to produce crops this year as our water levels diminish.

The local community has been tirelessly campaigning for real action to save Perth Hills water, yet the Water Minister’s idea of real action is merely engaging with these companies to understand their extraction plans over the summer.

Our local MP and the Cook Labor Government have failed the Roleystone Hills and I’m standing up for real action to protect our groundwater reserves.

Our local community knows that WA Labor has done nothing to fix the housing crisis.

The population of Mundijong alone is set to grow by 55,000 people over the next 25 years, and yet WA Labor’s mismanaged WA Building Bonus has only blown out in cost and left thousands of homes sitting unfinished. To deliver the housing our community needs, we must ensure that our road, electricity and water infrastructure is fit-for-purpose.

That’s why, as part of a Mettam Liberal Government, we’ll invest $300 million in an Enabling Infrastructure Fund to unlock more housing supply in key growth areas, including Mundijong and East Wellard.

Did you know that the public toilets at Cross Park are the most vandalised in the entire City of Armadale?

Moreover, the Roleystone Community Garden is facing declining membership and low morale due to repeated acts of vandalism, including the poisoning of their plants by weedkiller. It is unacceptable that local residents should have to tolerate such anti-social behaviour and the degradation of local community facilities.

That’s why I’m fighting for the installation of additional CCTV cameras overlooking the Roleystone Community Garden and the playground.

Local volunteer firefighters deserve our gratitude and support.

Our community is at the forefront of bushfire risk, and we rely upon volunteer firefighters to keep our growing population safe in the event of an emergency. Yet I’ve learned many brigades have woefully inadequate facilities, are facing declining membership and suffering from low morale.

This is why I’m fighting for essential upgrades to change rooms, toilets and storage facilities that will increase the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters and ensure that local brigades are better equipped to keep us safe.

Roleystone locals know that the Brookton Highway-Peet Road intersection is unsafe.

Given how busy and central this intersection is to local residents, the constant risk of rear-end collisions should not be tolerated.

This is why I’m advocating for a left slip lane from Brookton Highway into Peet Road, to give Roleystone the safe roads it deserves and to reduce congestion for local families.
